Ovechkin talks after morning skate in SJ 1/7/12

Nicklas Backstrom will sit out tonight and I salute to Capitals decision to play safe. We all remember Pens mistake for allowing Crosby to play in the next game after he was accidentally hit by David Steckel.

Ovi:

We didn’t play a lot against these guys so we just have to play our game and play most of the time in their zone and not ours, because they have pretty good skilled guys and use our mistakes to get chances.

I also agree with the Caps decision to sit Nicky and not take any unnecessary chances. Yes, the Pens made a huge mistake to allow Crosby to play the next game after Steckel accidentally hit him in the 2011 Winter Classic.

And the key word is ACCIDENTALLY. While I was at the Museum of Natural History when I visited DC in October, I was approached by a couple who noticed my Caps jersey. They were Pens fans on vacation, and approached me to chastise the Caps, blaming them for Crosby's concussion.

Not wanting to escalate the issue, I calmly told them (honestly) that as a hockey fan, I liked Crosby and respected him. I wished Crosby well and hoped he returned to play soon.

This seemed to satisfy them, although they qualifed their acceptance by saying I wasn't like most Caps fans who hate the Pens and Crosby. So there you have it, maybe I have a new career in diplomacy. :)

Bobby you have a lot of restraint. I wouldn't have been able to resist pointing out that Crosby ran into Steckel and the worst offender in the whole situation is the Pens medical staff for allowing Crosby back out in the game and then letting him play in the next game and get the hit by Hedman. Does this crazy couple forget Hedman? Anyway I guess good job representing Caps as a more sane fanbase.
