Ladies and Gentlemen,
We are in Riga, at their awesome arena. We flew here today, in the morning, from Moscow; then rested, had meal and getting ready for the game. A lot of guys got injured [Eremenko, Goldenkov, Knyazev, Anisin too] and stayed in Moscow. So we will play with who we have. What can I say about this arena? I am here for the first time in my life. I was in Riga in 2006 or 2005 at the Worlds. We had so-so performance, took 5th place. Right now I am in a good mood, met a lot of people here that I knew before, lots of friends. 15 minutes before the end of the second period, Alexander Ovechkin, in his one and only style, tried to score going from very blue line through several players and falling just before the opposite goals. However Alexander, when falling down, tried to shoot the puck and this is where Dmitri Pestunov helped him sending the puck in the empty corner.

Ovechkin not sure about returning to NHL if his salary will be cut.
After the game Dynamo vs Atlant (2-5) Dynamo forward Alexander Ovechkin, recently the captain of the Washington Capitals, talked to Sovietsky Sport writer Pavel Lysenkov about NHL lockout.
Alexander, can the NHL season still be saved?
We shall see. Some guys got scared, said bad things. But we stick together in the NHLPA and are not going to listen to these guys. We are united as a team. Everyone wants to play hockey, but I do not know when the lockout will end.
Can you guarantee that you will return to the NHL?
Again, we shall see. My contract with Washington Capitals is valid for 10 years. And I have to see if they will cut the wages. It's not just just me in this situation. And I don't understand why to sign long-term contracts with players and then cut them? It looks stupid.
The union is ready for revenue sharing in the ratio of "50 to 50". Do you agree?
I absolutely believe in our boss Donald Fehr, who heads the union. I know that he will not give up on our contracts. During the last lockout the players already have lost too much. I did not play in the NHL back then, but I know it. The main thing for us now is to stick together and stick to the same plan.

Moscow Dynamo forward Nicklas Backstrom, who scored 5 goals in two games against Vityaz, commented on his performance and shared his thoughts about the opponent with Championat.com correspondent Maria Rogovskaya:
"I don't know why it turned out like that in the games against this team. I haven't scored that many goals against one team since I was 13. It's just that I feel really good after the break [in KHL championship]. Of course, luck has played its role too. After the break I feel good. It took some time before the break for me to adjust to the time zone and different game style. Have I ever heard before about Vityaz? Generally yes, I have. And when I came to Dynamo the guys told me that last year that team loved to fight. But now I don't see such an aggressive play. In these two games there was nothing like that which is good. We're here to play hockey, and not for anything else.".

Ovechkin scores in overtime
Ovechkin scores game winning goal in overtime to beat Minsk Dynamo team 3-2. This is Alex Ovechkin's 7th goal. Backstrom had two assists in this game. Ovi's total ice time was 29 minutes.
Alex Ovechkin:
"The Minsk arena is outstanding. I think it is one of the best compared to those where we played. There were a lot of people even at the morning skate. And then the game itself had a great atmosphere. To be honest I was shocked to see how many people came to the game which turned out to be more difficult than expected, even though we took lead 2-0 at first. But then the opponent scored two, well, lucky goals. Especially in the first case, when the player's hockey stick broke after he shoot the puck into the zone. I didn't see the episode with penalty shot, I can't say anything.Ovechkin was asked about his captaincy because he was playing as Captain for the second game. Ovi said it was simply because their current Captain Babenko got sick.
Why in Moscow we won 7:2? Back then opponent didn't have Pekka Rinne. Today he was the best player of the game. I can say that this is a very high-class goalkeeper."
In other news Emily reports about the basketball game between Minsk Tsmoki and Moscow CSKA. According to media Ovechkin and other hockey players were not allowed to the arena because they didn't have tickets.

After the loss to Severstal (2-4) Moscow Dynamo forward Alexander Ovechkin put the blame for the lost game on the referees.
"It is totally unnecessary to comment on this game," quotes Ovechkin Sportbox.ru correspondent Konstantin Rumyantsev. "In my opinion, the referees had in mind only one team, Severstal. And in each of the game periods the refs would penalize us breaking our game. But Cherepovets players were great. They played well, especially in defense. Vasily Koshechkin was awesome!
Have you played before with Koshechkin ?
Yes, we played with him in the national team. This keeper is one of the best and he has proven it once more.
How does it feel to be a "magnet" for the fans who came to see you?
I think it's good for hockey in general and for the teams that are supported by so many fans. It is much more pleasant to play when the stands are packed.
What is the lockout for you, a change of your traditional way of life or the opportunity to play at home?
That and this. To play at home for the home club and the home fans, it's worth a lot for me! Such an opportunity could happen once in a lifetime.
Have you got used to large rinks?
Yes. Of course, at first it was hard, but now it has been more than 20 games. I feel much better, but this is very different hockey than overseas.
In October Dynamo has been successful, but now playing on the road doesn't look very good. What happened?
I don't want to talk about it, but you just can't referee the way it was in this game. And what was a penalty shot for? I do not understand. Giving a penalty shot for the high stick is a children's hockey.

Backstrom: I will honor my contract with Capitals regardless of new CBA.
Moscow Dynamo forward Nicklas Backstrom, after the game vs. the "Vityaz" (4:3), said that he intends to honor his contract with Washington Capitals regardless of results in negotiations for a new collective barganinig agreement.
Will you stay in the KHL if your salary will be cut over the seas?
I have a contract with Capitals and I will honor it. So I will go back to the NHL in anay case.
Is it true that NHLPA chairman Donald Fehr does not give all the information about the negotiations to the players?
It is not true, we are told everything. And we have full confidence in Fehr. Nobody will be able to split the union.
What would you do if the NHL will not let it's players to the Olympics in Sochi?
Well I haven't prepared a secret plan to escape. But I think that NHLers should participate in the Olympics. I can not imagine what I would do without Sochi!

Ovechkin's interview from Novogorsk
Just in from our senior investigative correspondent, good job as usual, Emily!
The NHL star Alexander Ovechkin pleases the fans of Moscow Dynamo this fall the same way as he did when he was younger. During the lockout he changed Washington Capitals jersey to a white-n-blue one and scores regularly , he has exactly 14 points in 14 games. It is an adventure to get an audience with Ovi. Alexander the Great, as he known in North America, does not exactly avoid the journalists. He talks to the press, unlike many far less famous soccer players, fairly regularly. But he takes it as a rather necessary inconvenience. During the interview Ovechkin takes indifferent gaze somewhere in front of him and gives short answers. It is hopeless to expect from him any revelations or at least to get interested in the process.
During the World Cup 2008 in Quebec I got access to the star through a colleague who knew Ovi from the time when he was just a schoolboy named Sasha. But even then Alexander has allocated to our communication exactly ten minutes. Once the time was up, he got up from the table and politely left. They say it is a part of his character.
Ovechkin gets tired easily and loses concentration from long talks. They say that even for a Dynamo's web site he had to be interviewed in two stages of 15 minutes each. So when Alexander became generous and agreed to ten minutes for "Rossiyskaya Gazeta", I immediately rushed to the team's training facility in Novogorsk. While waiting I watched Dynamo's training from the podium next to the head coach of the "white-n-blue" Oleg Znarok and Alexander Ovechkin's girlfriend tennis player Maria Kirilenko.
After training session ended Ovi didn't sound so optimistic about an interview. Sheltered in the locker room, he tried to convince Dynamo's press attache Mikhail Kravchenko to cut conversation to five minutes. We finally agreed on seven. Ovechkin followed timing strictly and by the end of the allotted period of time he looked tired. Here's what we've got in the end.
Alexander, according to information from the U.S. the NHL season can still happen, and almost in the near future. How long we will be able to watch you live?
I don't have any new information about it. Of course, I know a little more than the journalists, but to talk about it in the press doesn't make sense. Why blow up something comprehensible out of incomprehensible? If it is possible to play here, I will. I have developed an excellent relationship with the club, with the coaching staff, with the guys in the team. I feel yourself at home.
The club's president said that even if the NHL lockout is over, Dynamo wants to keep Ovechkin. Is it for real?
I don't think this is unrealistic. All things are possible. But let's wait and watch what will happen overseas.
Can top NHL players somehow influence the course of negotiations between the union and the leadership of the League?
Our head Donald Fehr knows the terms on which we would agree to play. Nobody wants to have their salary or their status to be lowered. Here everything would be up to Fehr. We have full confidence in him, but there the situation can change in different ways.
Can they can call you and say, "they offer such and such, will we agree?"
They're not at the market, this is not some kind of trade. The NHL is a big organization, and they are working thinking about the future. No one wants to have a good contract for the coming season, and then three or four years to play on terms that do not suit us. Everything must be planned in a systematic and uniform way.
Is lockout a blow to hockey in general?
Of course. It is especially strong blow to Canada, local hockey fans go crazy. But, again, we want to play, and the club owners do not.
Compared to season from which you went overseas, is it more difficult to play in the KHL?
Honestly, I do not even remember how it was then. Because I left a while ago and in Russia I didn't play too long. So I am not going to try to compare. The hockey is decent, the tournament is organized well, all at the highest level.
If Dynamo with his current roster would play in the NHL, what place it could take?
Over there, just like here, the regular season does not mean much. The main thing is the playoffs. In any case, I do not think that hockey in the NHL and KHL can be compared. You will need to practice to get used to the smaller rinks. These are two completely different game styles. In the NHL everything is compact; smaller rinks, you have to think faster. Here you have more time to make decisions.

We kept this group of ice hockey players very busy during their week-long exchange. At our reception in their honor, I loved hearing about their master classes conducted by Igor Tuzik, Vice President of the Russian Hockey Federation, and by Olympic Gold Medal winners Vladimir Myshkin and Vitaliy Prokhorov. The young Russian and American players got to talk with Soviet hockey legends Vladislav Tretyak and Aleksandr Yakushev about their Olympic gold medal winning experiences. They also attended team practices of two professional KHL teams, CSKA and Dynamo, and had meet-and-greets with NHL players Sergey Fedorov, Pavel Datsyuk, Ilya Bryzgalov and Alex Ovechkin.

Ovechkin's diagnosed with acute exacerbation of bronchitis

Pavel: What happened to Alexander Ovechkin? He is missing the third Dynamo game.
Valery: He is diagnosed with acute exacerbation of bronchitis. Around November 7 or 8 Ovechkin will start training, but on individual plan.
How it happen that didn't you keep track of the health of the most popular KHL player?
As they say, cold is cold. You need to wear a hat, a scarve. And then, Ovechkin has a lot of contact. He is on demand, he goes to meet people instead of regular check up of the bronchi and lungs. Then goes autographs' session, or meeting with the management. Besides Sasha came after Dynamo players already had their vaccination done.
You mean, he still is not vaccinated?
I hope that in America he receivedthe right shot. Or maybe he was prescribed preventive medicine in the form of garlic.

Ovi is going to miss another game vs. Moscow Spartak, but people still discuss a "traffic jam" created by Ovi during autograph session, reports our chief investigative correspondent Emily.

Alexander Ovechkin did not come out on the ice because of bronchitis, but came to support his team, and during the break did the autograph session for the fans.
Ovi's dad:
There were a lot of people, he [Ovechkin], of course could not expect it, but it was really nice the people like our hockey players. It was unbelievable how many people came.

About playing on the line with Backstrom and Gynge
Ovechkin: I don't know a player who would refuse to play with such master as Backie. I think Gynge is also happy to play with Backie and me.
About the game vs. Lokomotive, getting into fight with Guskov:
Someone hit me in the head from the back, I didn't even see who it was. At first I went after wrong guy, but guys said it was Guskov. I offered him to fight, but he refused.
About shattered glass
Ovechkin: It happened with me second time, first time it was in America. I got cut a bit, because glass is glass, but it was not bad. Of course for fans it's a wow moment.
What if lockout ends tomorrow?
GM Safronov: We'll buy a train ticket for Ovi and send him to Washington. But we have a very good team, we have very good junoirs. It won't be a problem.
Ovechkin: Last Bettman's proposal was deceiveing to show that he wanted to end lockout. In reality it was the same proposal. In the last lockout NHLPA management made a mistake and succumbed to Bettman and Co. This time they try to cut existing contracts, one can say that they are annulling our contracts by doing so.
